A Brief Update

For the last two months, Fair Fares LLC has been working with Skagit County's legal division to settle the Record. Ours is an Appeal of the Skagit County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) Punch Card and Fare Resolutions which drastically increased the fares for the Guemes Island Ferry. An Appeal is by law based on the Record that was used by the BOCC to arrive at their decisions. The Record is not a simple one due to the number of starts and stops that resulted in the fare increases which went into effect February 26, 2025. Fair Fares LLC has worked diligently with our attorney to make sure that the Record is complete including creating written transcripts of each of the public meetings and Work Session videos. We are nearing a completion of the Record, but a number of records are being contested by the County. According to the current schedule presented to the Court, "Should the parties be unable to agree to the record, the matter should be noted to resolve issues pertaining to the record on or before May 30, 2025."
This process has taken longer and consumed much more money than originally planned. Above you will see the Fair Fares LLC QR code which, when scanned with your camera, will take you directly to our donation page on the website Zeffy which we selected as they do not charge a fee for their transaction, if you select that button on the donation page. They will, of course, accept a donation for their services. Or use this link: www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/donate-to-make-a-difference-11583. Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated. The next step, after the Record is settled, is for each side to submit their briefs-(yes the pun was intended in this article's title.)
