Hearing on Fares

Hearing on Fares

Public Testimony on April 20 at 1:30 pm.

On March 27, Skagit County Public Works published a correction to its 2026 fares increasing the charges to larger trucks to match 30% increase in other fare categories.  This is the correction of a math error in their calculation for the 2026 fares and will be implemented as peak fares go into effect on May 20, 2026.

Fair Fares had asked in a letter dated March 5, 2026 that the County take this opportunity to recalculate the 2025 fares according to Judge Loring’s remand of the fare resolution for that year.  On March 6, the County acknowledged receipt of the letter and said they would respond soon.  To date, the County has not responded to the Fair Fares request nor is there an indication of when the 2025 fares might be recalculated.  The judge also remanded the resolution regarding the non-expiry punch cards which prescribed their end date.  On March 23, the County passed another non-expiry punch card resolution, #R20260060, which still has the expiration end date of December 31,2026 for conversion of the cards.

The comment period for the correction of the math error and the new fare schedule is open to the end of the hearing on April 20. If you cannot make the April 20 public meeting to be held at the Skagit County Hearing Room at 1800 Continental Place in Mount Vernon, at the inconvenient time of 1:30pm on Monday, April 20, please consider writing an email asking for recalculation of the 2025 fares according to the Court’s order.

The public can also join the meeting via Zoom at the link on the Commissioners’ website or by watching on TV21. The adjusted fare schedule was published on the County website on March 27.   Written comments on the proposal can be sent to [email protected].
